Reaching your fitness and wellness goals can be challenging.  Together, we will build a plan to get you there and I will be with you every step of the way!

My multi-dimensional training approach will address everything below.

I’ve been training with Matt over the past 2 years and I have never felt stronger or healthier in my life. For starters I have NEVER been one to enjoy the gym or working out but Matt’s passion for creating a healthier version of you is contagious. I first started seeing Matt after experiencing some lower back discomfort as a result of my career as a dentist. Because of Matt’s expertise, no matter how busy my schedule may get, I have made it a priority to fit in my work out either before or after work to ensure my professional life as a dentist isn’t cut short by chronic pain. Matt makes each workout challenging, creative and most importantly, fun! He also places a high value on proper form and building from the ground up. He motivates me to push past my perceived limits to get results. Being a person that makes decisions solely based on science, Matt’s incredible knowledge about the science of exercise is impressive. I have not only seen changes in my body physically but I stopped feeling discomfort after a long day of work. Matt has not only changed my perception of working out but he’s also become a great friend. I would absolutely recommend Matt to any one who looking for a true professional that will help you create the version of you that is happier and healthier.

I have had the pleasure of training with Matt for about 5 years. As a doctor, I was immediately impressed with his knowledge and functionality of the human body and its muscle groups. I was even more impressed with his attention to detail and form, and how once a particular exercise is mastered, he would make a simple adjustment to advance it so there was always a progression. As a self-proclaimed ‘weekend warrior’ , I suffer from many injuries, including herniated disks in my back, a torn ACL and rotator cuff. With his help, I have increased my core strength dramatically, which has alleviated my back pain. Being that Matt’s specialty is coaching for sports performance, his skills are even more valuable to me. I have significant improvements in my strength, stamina, and leaping ability. Of course, losing 40 pounds hasn’t hurt either.

I often find myself sharing his wisom about nutrition and weight loss with my patients and see them reaping the benefits from his as much as I have. Aside from being my strength coach, I now have the pleasure of calling him my friend, and whole-heartedly, without reservation, recommend him to anyone who wants to lose weight, get stronger or improve their sports performance.

I came to Coach Montroy, because I needed to pass a physical fitness test for my new job. He came highly recommended by multiple physical fitness trainers. On our first appointment, he was able to assess my flexibility and strength to determine areas I needed to improve in order to pass my test. It turns out I had cement-like ankles….who knew! In addition to my immovable ankles, I had a hamstring strain that was still in the process of healing. He was able to create a program for me that not only allowed me to heal, but continued to propel me forward in my training. As a result, I nailed my physical fitness test the first time I took it! With his expertise, I continue to improve my scores on my physical fitness test and I am in the best shape of my life. Thanks Coach!

I have been working with Coach Montroy for about a year and a half. He has gone beyond exceeded my expectations. Not only does he have more knowledge than anyone I have ever trained with, but he has completely changed the way I feel about my body. Coming from an athletic background, this means a lot. He is not only a great strength coach but also a great friend. He truly wants the best for his clients and pushes me to be the best I can be. I came into his program with massive knee injuries and could barely do a squat. I am now squatting about 130 pounds, which is almost my body weight. If you want to change your life and body I highly suggest you train with Matt. He has been a huge part of my success and I am forever grateful.

Matt took the time to really understand “Me”; to understand my past and my present condition. He listened to my story and my health challenges, including asthma and created a multi-dimensional plan that focused on my past injuries, my fitness goals and more importantly my confidence to work out again!
The journey started slowly with Matt focusing on rebuilding my core, and helping me deal with my everyday “Back Pain” which is a miracle that medicine wasn’t able to solve. Matt was patient, understanding and a hard ass when he needed to be with me. I would consider him a miracle worker. He gave me a life with less pain, more personal confidence and a much improved physical appearance!

If your looking for the “Real Deal”, and not just a training, but a life changer, look no further. If you don’t believe it, reach out to me directly!

Matt has been the personal trainer to both my wife Carolyn and I for more than 7 years now. When we first went to Matt, I was recovering from recent back surgery. Working with my surgeon and I, Matt custom designed an exercise regimen for me that helped me to a full recovery and not only regain my strength, but significantly improve my overall health and well-being. He subsequently designed a tailored wellness program to also help me recover from heart surgery. He is currently working with Carolyn and her physical therapist to overcome a hip disorder that allowed her to avoid painful hip-replacement surgery. Matt continues his extensive and advanced education to tailor strength and conditioning programs to specifically meet the individual needs of each client. Most importantly, he makes a personal commitment to each of his clients to ensure their well-being and guide them to a higher quality of life. Mat is much more than a personal trainer, he is our dear friend. I have in the past, and continue to recommend his services to our family and friends.

Matt Montroy is a truly excellent trainer. I have been using the services of several trainers for the past 15 years to counteract the effects of my sedentary but high-pressure job. I can honestly say that Matt is the best trainer I have ever retained. He is a master of his craft; incredibly bright, with a deep knowledge of the health and fitness sciences. I have been working with him for about 4 months and he has demonstrated the perfect combination of high standards and personal empathy that make our workouts a shared responsibility. I am now retired, and have experienced a number of medical limitations recently. Matt has taken the time to understand them and design my workouts accordingly. I believe this has been very successful becuase he works with the whole person – mentally, emotionally and physically – to develop a program that we can both be committed to. He wasn’t afraid to “start from scratch” by analyzing my strengths and weaknesses and being honest with me about setting my goals and estimating the time it would take to achieve them. Because of his efforts, I am stronger and much more flexible. We are both looking forward to achieving even more.

When I first started training with Matt, I figured I would do a couple of sessions and then just do it myself. After experiencing the wealth of knowledge he has, I have continued training with him for years. I think Matt has probably obtained every degree that is possible in his line of work, and I trust him completely to make sure I don’t injure myself, as he watches every little move to make sure I have the proper mechanics and form of even the simplest of exercises. Having the confidence of avoiding injury, being pain-free and the encouragement I receive from him even outside of our sessions is priceless. The fact that he is continuously researching and learning as much as he can about his profession shows how dedicated and passionate he is about what he does, which makes training with him fun and enjoyable, also. You just can’t go wrong in choosing Matt Montroy as your trainer.

I have been training with Matt since the fall of 2013. During this period of time I can truly say that my health, my balance and my physique have shown remarkable improvements due to Matt’s meticulous attention to detail in every aspect of the training program. Matt’s professionalism and his excellent academic credentials make him a truly outstanding personal trainer. One would be hard pressed to find someone of Matt’s quality here in South Florida. Matt’s programs are designed for the goals of each individual, he presses his clients to do their best, always challenging but never beyond a person’s capacity. I endorse him without hesitation.

I have known Matt for over 8 years as a friend, but in the last year I can add him as a great strength coach. After a major slip and fall accident in September of 2014, I contacted Matt to help me rehab my injured knee and ankle. I needed to gain strength, mobility, and lose the fear in everyday movement that I had unfortunately gained from the fall. We have been working together 2-3 times per week. I can say that his advanced knowledge, persistence and genuine compassion have been of utmost importance during my recovery process. Even when I’m being unreasonable, frustrated or even a bit of a baby, Matt keeps me focused and reminds me how far I have come in my rehabilitation. Because of him I am on a path to a much better place. I cannot thank him enough.

Being frustrated with my lack of knowledge and consistency in going to the gym I set up a meeting with Matt to discuss my personal needs. The meeting was very in depth and Matt’s knowledge in the fitness and strength coaching was excellent. I decided then and there that this was the trainer for me.

It’s been over 3 years now and I am still happily training with Matt several times a week. Not only is Matt a first class trainer but a person who takes the time to listen and explain everything in detail. From my perspective Matt has gone above and beyond to help me achieve my personal goals both in and out of the gym.

Matt is at the top of his profession when it comes to designing a unique program for me, or for you! He is patient but absolutely will not compromise our goals for an easy day at the gym. He works me to my limits but never beyond. My limits are extending rapidly. I am amazed. His encouragement is clear and firm but never assertive. He makes me feel good about myself and encourages me to keep raising the bar.

My daughter Lisa introduced Matt to me. She has been friends with him a long time and also trains with him. She suggested I start working out and he would be the one to help me.

I had an accident (fall) and broke my left shoulder. It had over seventeen fractures. Matt was able to give me extensive rehab on my shoulder. I am diabetic and have had a heart attack as well. With his patience and his knowledge of all my medical conditions, I can now raise my shoulder almost as high as my other arm, am losing weight and feel better than I have in years. He has also strengthens the leg that I had a “knee replacement” on. Both legs are much stronger. We work together three times a week. He writes a workout program especially for me. Every part of my body is getting stronger I can see and feel the difference since I started.

I still have a long way to go, but with Matt I look forward to our time together. It really works.

I have been with Matt since the end of 2008, which was the year he arrived in Fort Lauderdale. When I came here in 2005, I was overweight with high blood pressure and soaring cholesterol. While I set out to lose the weight of 50 lbs., I noticed my body started to droop and walking wasn’t helping with the upper body problems.

Matt was not only new, he was completely different from the other trainers. After listening to my fitness goals, Matt asked about any health problems I had, so he could put together a fitness program for me. I would do whatever he told me to do (and there were things I hated). After a while, I realized that the stuff we do like to do can be done on our own, but more importantly realized that we need trainers for making us do the things we don’t like to do.

I was getting ready to leave the gym one day and a friend stopped me and asked if I still had a trainer and I said yes I do. She then smiled and pointed to my upper body and said it shows. I realized at that point Matt was a keeper. I would definitely recommend Matt as a trainer to anyone interested in total body fitness.

I got my start in strength training in high school when I started playing rugby.  Rugby is a tough sport and I had to get tough in order to compete.  Strength training gave me that toughness.

When I went to college, I started training with the strength coach where I was able to build on my strength.  More importantly, I was exposed for the first time to structured fitness training provided by a certified trainer.  He taught me the basics of exercise execution, program design, and how to progress/regress the variables for everyone.  While pursuing my degree in psychology, I also started to purse my personal training career at the local YMCA.

In 2008, I moved to Fort Lauderdale and was hired as a personal trainer at Bally Total Fitness.  Here, I continued to improve my skills as a personal trainer.  The more I improved, the more I realized how much I loved the positive impact I was able to have on my clients.

In 2013, I launched Apex Strength and Training with the goal of helping anyone, from age 8 to 80, reach their fitness and wellness goals.  My personal mantra is “Improve every day!”  My focus is on improving my own fitness levels, my knowledge on fitness and wellness training, and most importantly my clients.

“No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care. ”

It is my goal to show you that you are capable of so much more than you give yourself credit for.   I am committed emotionally and mentally to you.  I’m not just your trainer for two hours a week.  I’m here for you whenever you need me, whether that is late at night when you are fighting the urge to binge eat or when you are at the grocery store after work trying to decide which loaf of bread you should buy.  My commitment to you and your goals is unwavering.

No two people share the same health and fitness needs and goals.  Your training program is 100% customized for you using proven scientific principles, not just the next training fad.  In addressing your health and fitness goals, I create a fun and challenging program using the following:
